Vertical Video Syndrome - A PSA

Love this little clip!  It's video framing format - horizontal or vertical?

Well, to do any type of high end quality filming the frame should always be horizontal.  Though with the use of phones people are just shooting and filming: as vertical!  Reminds me of the old photographic formats.  You had the 35mm professional rectangle frame.  Then you had the 120 huge negative format on a rectangle frame to capture the most information on the negative.  The 126 format for regular use which was a square frame.  Then in the 1970s with the pocket cameras with the small 110 format.  Very small negative and so you lost the quality when enlarged too much.  Well, this is for film photography.

As for video, this clip is a bit old now, being made back n 2012.  People were just starting to use their phones.  Well, it looks like this message didn't work as we're developed into having the two formats, horizontal and vertical.  Horizontal for the professional high end and vertical for the regular everyday format now being seen on social media like Facebook Live and similar.

What's your preference and why?  Do you do more filming in vertical for social media or are you going for the standard horizontal format?  Love to hear your opinions.
